05. What are the advantages and disadvantages of LED lights?

Advantages: New green and environmentally friendly light source: LED uses cold light source, with little glare, no radiation, and no harmful substances produced during use. LED has low working voltage, adopts DC drive mode, ultra-low power consumption (single tube 0.03~0.06W), electro-optical power conversion is close to 100%, and energy saving is more than 80% compared with traditional light sources under the same lighting effect. LED has better environmental benefits, there is no ultraviolet and infrared in the spectrum, and the waste is recyclable, there is no pollution, does not contain mercury, and can be safely touched. It is a typical green lighting source. Long life: LED is a solid cold light source, epoxy resin encapsulation, vibration resistance, and there is no loose part in the lamp body. There are no shortcomings such as easy burning of filament light, heat deposition, and light decay. The service life can reach 60,000~100,000 hours, which is more than 10 times the service life of traditional light sources. LED has stable performance and can work normally in an environment of -30~+50°C. Multiple transformations: LED light sources can use the principle of red, green and blue primary colors. Under the control of computer technology, the three colors can have 256 gray levels and can be mixed arbitrarily, which can produce 256X256X256 (i.e. 16777216) colors to form a combination of different light colors. The light color of LED combinations can be varied, and colorful dynamic change effects and various images can be achieved. Disadvantages: Heat dissipation problem. If the heat dissipation is not good, the life span will be greatly shortened. The power saving of low-end LED lamps is still lower than that of energy-saving lamps (cold cathode tubes, CCFL). The initial purchase cost is high. Because LED light sources are highly directional, the design of lamps needs to consider the special optical properties of LEDs.
